TATTOO OF THE DAY...

Image
Freehand on Siegfried from Oman The symbol for Antwerp is the hand. The story goes that a giant called Antigoon would chop of the hands of whoever wanted to get in the city without paying him. He would then throw the hand in the river Scheldt. This came to ears of a Roman soldier, Brabo who thought this was wrong, and he went out to confront the giant. He defeated the giant and in turn chopped of his hand and threw it in the river. The people were now safe to enter the city freely. The name Antwerpen would have derived from the hand throwing, hand werpen in flemish.
